Venture Outdoors Fest is June 16

KCPW News (Salt Lake City), June 13, 2007, by Julie Rose

Venture Outdoors FestivalResidents of Millcreek Township have planned an afternoon of free activities as a thank you to the community and an inspiration to people hesitant to venture outdoors.

"I mean, you might be an excellent bicycler, but know nothing about rock climbing, or canyoneering or skateboarding, even," says Aimee McConkie, an organizer of the second annual Venture Outdoors Festival. "Giving people exposure to new things is what this is about."

The Venture Outdoors Festival runs tomorrow from 3 to 9 at Canyon Rim Park in Millcreek. Over 40 free clinics will offer basic instruction and professional exhibitions in climbing, skateboarding, fishing and gardening. Live music and fire circus performers round out the evening.

McConkie says part of the event's goal is to educate residents about the unique governance of Millcreek, which is one of the few remaining unincorporated areas of Salt Lake County.
